Streaming giveth and it taketh away. The end of September is about, which means that a agglomeration of movies and TV shows are leaving streaming services (or simply shuffling effectually). Terminal Chance Binge is here to remind y'all that the clock is ticking on some first-class titles.

My elevation selection is The Grandmaster, a gorgeous martial arts action movie starring Tony Leung, who recently made his Hollywood debut in Curiosity'due south Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings — and essentially stole the film out from the lead.

  • xi new movies and TV shows to lookout this weekend
  • Find your adjacent favorite with the 61 all-time Netflix shows and TV series

Shang-Chi introduced many mainstream moviegoers to the charismatic Tony Leung, the veteran Hong Kong picture star. And the Marvel film would not have worked besides as it did without Leung'due south magnetic performance as Xu Wenwu. His final scene illustrates why he'south known as "the human being who speaks with his eyes" in Red china.

If y'all fell in honey with those optics and want to see more of them, you've got a satisfying journey ahead of yous in exploring Leung'south oeuvre. You could actually pick at random from any of his films, merely The Grandmaster'due south divergence from Netflix provides the perfect starting point. It's the about recent of Leung's collaborations with iconic managing director Wong Kar-wai and features the martial arts skills that the role player then aptly displayed in Shang-Chi.

So if you loved the beautiful, balletic standoff between Wenwu and his future wife, Ying Li (Fala Chen) in Shang-Chi — my favorite activeness scene in the whole movie — get ready. Leung has a similar crackling chemistry with Zhang Ziyi in their fights in The Grandmaster.

In The Grandmaster, Leung plays Ip Man, the real-life main of the southern Chinese style of kung fu called Wing Chun (he trained Bruce Lee). Simply the film isn't actually a biopic, more of an epic poem that explores artistry, loyalty, accolade and unity. The story picks up in the 1930s, when Ip Homo is living with his family in Foshan. His quiet life is disrupted by the inflow of an aging grandmaster who wants to crown an heir in the southern China. He challenges Ip Man to a fight, which the latter wins.

In plow, the grandmaster'southward girl, Gong Er, challenges Ip Man in a bid to regain her family's honor. A stunning, passionate boxing ensues, at the cease of which Gong Er prevails. Their soulful connexion is put on hold, though, when war erupts in the state. Ip Man falls into poverty and moves to Hong Kong to teach martial arts. He and Gong Er come across again, but recapturing the by is never elementary.

Lookout man The Grandmaster on Netflix before it leaves on Dominicus, September 26.

For more of Leung's smoldering heart acting, bank check out Wong'due south In the Mood For Dearest on HBO Max. For more martial arts prowess by Leung and Zhang, watch Hero on HBO Max.
